Introduction
Artificial intelligence has fundamentally transformed how healthcare businesses operate and deliver services. Major healthcare systems like Atlantic Health recognize this shift and are implementing dual innovations: PatientGPT, an AI chatbot experience enabling patients to access virtual medical assistance immediately, and K-Health virtual primary care, where Atlantic Health providers deliver care through virtual calls rather than requiring office visits. I was tasked with designing how these innovations would be displayed across the Atlantic Health website through a hero page, location results page, and carousel components.
Defining the Problem
Before designing, I collaborated with the marketing and DevOps teams to understand the strategic challenge. This was a new initiative still in development, so information was limited and evolving. However, through cross-functional meetings, I gathered essential details: the primary care practice name, title designation, hours of availability, and the core slogan "Virtual care from home, anywhere in NJ." The challenge was making virtual primary care as discoverable and understandable as traditional in-person services, while leveraging AI to communicate 24/7 availability and immediate access. That observation led to one question: how can we present virtual primary care as the natural, modern solution to patient healthcare needs?
Through collaboration with the marketing team, I conducted competitive analysis of Novant Health and Hartford Healthcare to understand strategic virtual care positioning. Novant Health features "Get virtual care 24/7" as a dedicated action card using distinct icons and 24/7 messaging, while Hartford Healthcare organizes care into three columns with virtual care prominently displayed alongside walk-in and urgent options. Both leverage dedicated visual treatments, icons, and benefit-driven messaging to differentiate virtual care from physical locations. By applying these research insights into my future K-Health designs, I aimed to position virtual primary care prominently within the website hierarchy and user journey, ensuring it feels like an equal alternative to in-person visits and ultimately enhancing user experience while increasing appointment bookings with virtual providers.

Research & Discovery
I conducted competitive analysis across leading healthcare platforms, with Novant Health emerging as the primary reference point. Their calendar design featured a plus functionality that expanded to show more dates, with highlighted time slots and arrows enabling navigation across different days of availability. This approach effectively communicated availability while managing information density. However, I identified a key limitation: their expanded view still displayed days with empty time slots, which created confusion about actual availability. I recommended mimicking their interactive expand/collapse functionality but improving the core value proposition by only displaying days with actual available times. This refinement would give patients immediate clarity about when they could book without wading through unavailable dates.

Ideation & Design Process
As information evolved through ongoing meetings, I implemented modifications to Atlantic Health's location hero page, carousel component, and results card. All three maintained consistent branding with "Atlantic Health Virtual Primary Care," the slogan "Anywhere in NJ" with a map icon, and phone number 862-415-0509. The CTAs varied strategically by component: the carousel and results card featured "View Location Details" to navigate to the location page, where users encountered "Schedule Appointment" in Atlantic Health's primary navy color and "About Our Services" in secondary outlined styling. These components were implemented across desktop, tablet, and mobile to ensure responsive design and consistent consumer experience throughout the site.

Prototyping & Testing
Once designs were finalized, I coordinated with the development team to create Jira tickets for technical implementation and testing. I assisted in conducting tests across dev2 and production stage environments, coordinating AEM testing to validate component functionality and data integration. I also configured a new virtual location type in DocRefine for K-Health, setting essential fields including location name, page title, short name, parent location hierarchy, location type, and URL. This backend configuration ensured virtual primary care populated as the first result for primary care searches. By applying UX principles of information hierarchy and strategic positioning, users naturally gravitated toward virtual primary care options. The combination of top-of-results placement, distinct visual styling, and benefit-driven messaging guided user decision-making, making virtual primary care the preferred choice for patients seeking convenient, accessible options.
Final Solution & Reflection
As the months passed with this being the primary focus, the marketing department launched our virtual primary care services and PatientGPT to the public through the Atlantic Health website, positioning Atlantic Health as the 3rd health system in the country to offer these types of services with over 22 virtual care appointments booked on the first day. This project taught me how to leverage artificial intelligence through genuine patient necessity—access to virtual primary care without location or scheduling barriers. By incorporating trust through strategic call-to-action buttons and thoughtful component structuring, we removed friction that prevented patients from discovering AI-enabled healthcare in a world where AI is constantly evolving. The components presented K-Health as visually distinct from traditional services while maintaining the transparency healthcare requires. By bringing innovative services to the public with strategic design and user-centered execution, I contributed to organizational growth, patient acquisition, and Atlantic Health's position as an industry leader. This experience showcases my ability to transform complex healthcare challenges into market-competitive solutions that drive measurable results any organization.
